Slow Spring - Exhibition Catalogue Designed for German artist Annette Merkenthaler. The main objective was to support and communicate the exhibition's theme of "transformation and change in nature". The second challenge was to create a structure which could be appreciated either from an image based perspective or through the reading of the included texts. Transformation was achieved by introducing a graduated blend as the background for every spread. The book would begin in blue (Winter) and change through green into yellow (Spring). The book spine and edge shows the obvious transformation. Change was also reflected in the use of the font. Rotis was chosen specifically to reflect the nationality of the artist while using its broad range of cuts and weights. The book begins in Rotis Sans, and transforms throughout the book into semi sans, semi serif and finally transforms into Rotis serif. The exhibition was first held at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery. |
